Lulu Guinness

I came across this brand when I was shopping in a shop that rent out boxes to people. The wallets were very nice and I thought that this brand sounds cute.... Then I see, WAH!! a wallet costs $300+++.....
Pic courtesy from http://www.luluguinness.com

Then I saw my boss using a Lulu Guinness wallet.... so chio... the 3rd time I saw it was a pair of Specs from Paris Miki.... and I told myself, I MUST OWN A LULU GUINNESS!! hehee

History of Lulu Guinness (Click to read)

And from Wikipedia..

Lulu Guinness (born 1960) is a well-known British accessories fashion designer.

In 1989, Lulu designed her first handbag – a patent briefcase with lots of clear pockets and bright suede lining. The piece is sold through Liberty’s and Joseph in London. After this great success, Lulu begins designing handbags full time and opens an office and work studio in her home. She opens a collaborative store on Elizabeth Street in London with Selina Blow and the Jackson’s. In 1995, the first of her world famous collectable handbags is designed and called the ‘Original House’ with hand embroidery on black satin with a red suede roof.

The first Lulu Guinness stand-alone store is opened on Ledbury Road in Notting Hill. Small, but perfectly formed, the shop attracts favourite customers, Madonna and Jerry Hall. An office is opened simultaneously below the shop. She also starts selling to Far East companies including Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. Expanding quickly, 1998 sees Lulu join the Knightsbridge fleet, with a new shop opening in Ellis Street, just off Sloane Street and a New York store in Bleecker St in 2000. Quickly other accessory and design opportunities occur and Lulu starts designing hosiery and socks exclusively for the Japanese market. Lulu launches umbrellas, shoes, scarves, sunglasses and collaboration with The Rug Company, which ensures glamour girls around the world look to Lulu Guinness in their mission to be perfectly suited from head to toe. In 2003, Lulu holds an exhibition at Sotheby’s, London, celebrating her collectable limited edition along with her first limited edition fragrance. In the same year Lulu opens the first stand-alone shop in Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills.

2004 sees Lulu diversifying into a stationary range is launched for the US market and the first store opens in Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur’s KLCC Isetan.

Over the following years, Lulu launches an optical range of glasses in the USA and collaborates with Stratton to make a small collection of compacts for the UK. The second stand-alone store opens in Japan in Osaka’s Nu Chyamachi building. Lulu’s first marketing campaign hits the streets of London in the form of 10 classic London taxis dressed in Lulu Guinness’ lilac with classic sayings. Lulu takes her customer to bed with the launch of her bed linen collection, exclusive at Harrods for the launch prior to distributing to other luxury retailers. Lulu opens the lower ground floor of her Ellis Street shop with a beautiful bed linen retail showcase.
2006 sees rapid growth and Lulu brings her sunglasses and optical range to London with a launch at Vision Express in Oxford Street. Lulu also launches an exciting luxury Italian handbag collection, called ‘Couture’. Exquisitely detailed modern day classic handbags made in leather and other sumptuous materials bring the real definition of luxury to the world of Lulu Guinness fans.

Lulu renovates her website - www.luluguinness.com - bringing customers the latest information on the brand, with special insight into the world of Lulu and a cool new shop online. Lulu designs and launches a small Couture costume jewellery collection with gold plated pearl and multi colour collars – a perfect mix of vintage chic plus Lulu’s wit. In the same year, Lulu is awarded an OBE from her Majesty the Queen, for her great contribution to British fashion.
In 2007, Lulu launched her mainline jewellery collection incorporating her signature lips and lipsticks into pendants and charms. As desirable as her handbags, celebrities and fashionistas are quickly seen adorned with Lulu's fabulous jewellery.

Lulu's luxurious bed linen range expands to beautifully embroidered silk cushions and throws, which are designed to be used to accessorize and style the entire home.
In the last year 2008, Lulu started a new Master License agreement with Itochu Corporation for Japan. In addition to continuing her already popular umbrellas, parasols, wallets, and handkerchiefs made especially for Japan, Lulu is very excited to launch gloves, belts, towels and jewellery for AW08. A garden party at the British Embassy in Tokyo celebrated the partnership with Itochu Corporation.

Lulu launches a new umbrella collection in conjunction with British manufacturer Fulton Ltd. Her glamorous and witty designs prove to be perfect for adorning umbrella canopies, becoming a "must have item" for 2008.

Felt like blogging on Branded Vs Brandless today ....

Branded

I bought a Prada Wallet. The gold lettering faded and the store was able to do a Free Replacement for me. Any problem with the stitching, would also be included. LV provides services to change their bags linings and straps etc for a fee. And Seriously BRANDED bags do have better quality generally. We pay more not only for the BRAND but for the assurance and quality too.

Brandless

I bought 3 Brandless bag a few weeks ago. Love the series and I bought 3 of them at 1 go. Upon reaching home, one of the buttons feel off. Becos I bought 3, I did not check all 3 bags thoroughly and fail to see the defect. When I contacted the shop, they refused an exchange. Then I regretted buying the bags. :(

Really unhappy but guess it's my mistake for not checking on the spot. And my mistake for being greedy... hahaa and my mistake for not buying BRANDED! kekee...

My Love for brands started when I was in Secondary School.

Heard of Sonia Rykiel?? Chantal Thomass? Jean Paul Gaultier (JPG)?? Those were the "Ah Lian" Days when most branded bags were carried by the "Ah Lians". I was not very rich then so I owned only 1 Sonia Rykiel bag and a Chantal Thomass wallet. The prices were around $100 - $300 for the brands and it took me a few months of part-timing before I could afford them!

There were other brands like Hunting World, Armani, Versace! I wonder if you have ever heard of them?? Well of course these designer brands are still around... just that most Singaporeans are crazy over 2 brands now; LV and Gucci.

Everywhere on the street or train, you see someone carrying a LV or Gucci. I guess the craze came from the availability of the replicas in Pasar Malam years back. Sad to say, I started with Fakes too... No choice as I love the designs and yet cannot afford them .....

So talking about me, I bought my first LV Speedy 25 from Yahoo Auctions at about $600 few years back. $600 was not a small sum for someone who used to carry fakes, or use some other cheaper range of bags. I was all along a BAG Addict. I love bags, all kind of bags and I especially like a brand call NEVE when I was younger. Those could be found in those market stores but I love them all the same...

A $600 LV made me crave for a $800 bag.... then I sold my Speedy and invested in another bag... I forgot which bag but I was crazy over LV for at least 2-3 years. Almost all the bags that they have in the below $2000 range, I almost owned them all. Speedy, Batignolles Horizontal, Lockit Horizontal, Brera, Tivoli, Mini Monogram speedy, Hampstead, Saleya, Duomo, Paillion, Alma, Troubille, Deauville, and even Neverfull. Many more I cannot remember.

If you think I am rich, nope I am not. I sold off some of the bags which I do not use anymore and then invested in new loves... so thats why I did not spend much in my bags addiction. Well it's definitely more than $20k over the years but it has brought me immerse pleasure and happiness being able to buy the bags I love.

In the past, Yahoo Auctions was a good avenue for me to sell and buy bags... but then it's up to you to judge authenticity and I thank God that I had never met any conman yet..... then Yahoo closed down and it was hard finding another place to sell my bags, that was also why I started my own portal BagSG to let like-minded friends buy and sell branded stuff.

Well I got to go.... will blog more about my addictions and experiences when I am free :P

Love
Ling

Would you spend $100 on a fake Coach bag when you can buy an authentic one for $300?? It's about 1/3 of the price and of lower quality.

I wonder why are there so many fake Long Champs and Agnes B? The actual bags cost about $200+- and there are lots of imitations in the market. My neighbour said she bought a fake Long Champ bag for 199 Baht and it's about $8 sing dollars. Maybe that is a good buy. But who would spend $60-$90 on a fake Long Champ?? Well Some people are selling fake longchamps in JB...for that kind of price. Sighs...

Coach is actually a good buy because of the availabilty of Factory Outlet in the US. Everyone who goes US, will return with Coach wristlets for S$50? Bags for S$150+? It's considered branded still and some of its designs are nice. I would say the trend of wristlets started with COACH. Everywhere u go, you can see someone using a Coach wristlet. Buy an authentic Coach bag. Priced at average $500 - $800 for a bag in Singapore, and about 30% cheaper in US, I am sure alot of us can afford. Why buy fakes? Lousy metal rings that rust, fabric that tears easily and stitches that open easily.....

Buy an AUTHENTIC Coach today.
Support authenticity, check out BagSG.

BagSG's tots of the day

I was in JB during the weekend. I was shopping around in Holiday Plaza in JB and was WOWed by what I saw. Many shops selling imitations openly. Guess it should be "legal" since they existed for so long... and know what? They give LV paperbags for LV bags that u buy.... Same colour but of course, poor quality paper.

I saw this lady who was dressed like a rich lady, walking out of the shop, after she paid for a awful looking imitation LV Galleria GM. The stitching of the bag was awful and so is the colour and material. Perhaps she got it at a real bargain?? So maybe RM30 for such a lousy bag would be reasonable.

I walked into the shop and pretended to ask the price. GOSH... RM350 after disount! So kind of the lady to offer me such a "good" discount! Why would anyone pay this kind of money for a lousy replica?? Ok.. I would rate that lady RICH!

Why Buy Branded??
Well personally I feel that I buy branded to look good and feel good. Besides the face value, branded items usually have very good quality leather, material, stitching and even warranty. I just bought a Prada wallet few months ago and the gold lettering actually faded. The Prada boutique was able to offer me a FOC replacement for my wallet. That is why I want to support buying AUTHENTIC items..

Frankly speaking, I used to own a few replicas when I was younger... and none of them lasted. Loose stitches, broken straps, peeling off of the leather etc.. YUCKS!

So if you do want a good quality branded bag, support AUTHENTICITY. Report those who sell fakes, especially those who claim their fakes are REAL.
