Choosing Big Totes/Bags

Some people like small bags. Like them light and easy to carry. Wheras some people like huge bags. Big bags. Large totes! :)

I am someone who like tote bags which are at least A4 size too. Cos I am one who dumps lots of stuff when I go out. A LV Card holder, a Prada wallet, few packets of tissue paper, comb, keys, some cosmetics (eyebrow pencil, lipstick), Gucci coin purse, iPhone and my Sony Ericsson W995. Sometimes I tug in an umbrella, some shopping vouchers, my IB token with a forever friends keychain as well as lip balm and PSP... etc etc...

Big bags are good. For me. I like big bags. Especially those that can be carried on the shoulder. :)

But if you do not choose your bag well, you end up with bruises on your shoulder or shoulder ache .... sighs....
There are a few things to look out when buying big bags. Especially when you intend to maximise the space in the bag. 3 main things to look out.
1) Material
2) Base
3) Straps

First, Material. Usually I do not choose very thin or flimsy material. LV canvas is good. Gucci fabric is also ok. I think the Gucci and Princy totes are quite ok to carry. But not Prada's parachute material. or perhaps Long Champ. Because the bags go out of shape within very thin material and will look awful when u carry lots of odd shaped objects in the large bag. An example of a shapeless bag, a canvas tote.

Next, Base.

A big bag with a base, maintain the shape of the bag very well. So many people buy base shapers for their LV Speedy, Longchamp and LV Neverfull. Hard base prevent the bag bottoms from slagging... and prevent wears and tears better.

Last but not least, Straps.
A very good life example was my friend's Neverfull GM. She dumped all her baby accessories (Diapers, wet tissue, milk bottles, hot water thermo flask, cold water etc) into her Neverfull GM and they fit nicely. She let her maid carry the bag (with no ill intentions) and she carried the baby.

A week later, the maid said: "Madam, look at my shoulders!" (And she showed the bruises on her shoulder to my friend). My friend was shocked and immediately switched to another diaper bag. Poor Maid. The bag was then sold off through BagSG hahaa
To carry a large bag, first of all, bag must not be very heavy even when empty. The straps are very important as it's the direct contact of the bag and the carrier.... Do not hurt yourself. Choose broad flat straps, and avoid thin straps. Thin straps can cut u when u carry heavy bags. An example of a comfortable strap is the LV Galleria or Gucci Jolicuoer.

*The above post is solely the author's personal views and opinions and meant no malice against any brands or bags.

Frankly Speaking...

I am been banned from alot of forums. :p
Cos I keep advertising my BagSG site in the forums to invite both buyers and sellers. The bags on the website are mostly not mine. I just want to gather all the branded bags lovers in my site so that we all can buy and sell here. :)

Some forums kicked me for advertising. Some banned me for NO reason. There is one forum, which no links are allowed, banned me for no reason. When I emailed them for a reason, they don't even bother to reply! Quite rude huh?? I was pretty sure I did not advertise in that forum! Well, never mind. How many nick names and email addresses can they barred? Try me :p

And know what? When they first started, they allowed links, don't have restrictions etc and it was such a friendly forum. Then as time goes by, the moderator got proud and sucky... restrict this and that etc...

Seriously I think we should all be nice to one another since we all love BRANDED bags.... no need to be hostile or act like competitors. I am not making money out of my site too so why the need to kick me? Maciam I earn commission from my sellers.... I do this at my free time and earn no comission from the sales, yet some people still complain why they got no or little response from their listing?

I can list down some reasons.

1) Bag model not popular (Low demand)
2) Price too high (Who want pay $1900 for a bag retailed at $1970?)
3) No receipt/dustbag/stains
4) Listing being pushed down after I make new posts ( I cannot make everyone's listing stay on top)
5) Ambigious authenticity
6) Blur photos

etc etc

so please don't blame me when your bags do not sell. I am trying my best.... :)

In order to get more people to our site, WORD OF MOUTH is very important! Please invite more friends/colleagues/relatives/classmates to BagSG so that more people know about this website and increase the chances of selling our bags. :)

Let's try increase the visitorship to BagSG ya :)

Love,
Elaine

I was shopping at Ion when I spotted this!

From the web:

Lady Dior Cannage Bag is one of the Dior’s easily recognizable item, and always in the dream list of most ladies. The style with classic and timeless Cannage stitching and metallic Dior lettering signature is also favored by English Diana princess, thus we also consider it as the Diana Bag. While, due to its greatly elegant look, it is not practical for office ladies and daily use, in my opinion.

If you are a person who are crazy for the cannage style, then you could try the newly released Dior Charming Lock for tge Fall 09 Collection. It features luxurious satin design with a quilted texture, bright silver hardware and mixed chain-link and leather straps. Do you remember the Dior Charming in Fall 08? During that time, the style is widely popular among young customers. Now, based on the look of Cannage, the bag spacially combines fashion of tradition and modern, and adds the unique charming lock closure. From the appearance, we can realize that the functional one with lightness and youth will be the next must-have one of Dior.

BagSG:
The retail price for this bag in Ion is about $16XX. I think it's quite a good buy and it's classy. Not really suitable for early 20s but will suit late 20s to early 40s.... :)

Or u like Big Totes?

Check this out!
Dior Charming Cannage Large Shopper (Extracted from HERE)

Christian Dior products are unique, with excellent designs that appeal to almost everyone. These products continue to be best sellers year after year, season after season. If it is the first time for you to purchase a Christian Dior Designer handbag, do not be surprised with the expensive price tags. It’s not unordinary for these designer handbags to be priced expensively, costing several hundred dollars or over a thousand bucks per handbag! One of the more popular bag choices, the Gaucho denim saddlebag, retails for $1,200! It may be too much for most of us, but keep in mind that you are purchasing an excellent quality item. Dior Charming Cannage Large Shopper available for $1075 at eluxury.com.

Juicy Couture

A brand which I think is very unique. Some people like it and some people don't. I fancy the baby pink colours, the material of the bags and the chic accessories....

From Wikipedia:

Juicy Couture is a contemporary line of both casual and dressy apparel based in Arleta, California, founded by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor. Now owned by the Liz Claiborne fashion company, Juicy is known for their signature velour tracksuits as well as other clothing and accessories.

Lulu Guinness

I came across this brand when I was shopping in a shop that rent out boxes to people. The wallets were very nice and I thought that this brand sounds cute.... Then I see, WAH!! a wallet costs $300+++.....
Pic courtesy from http://www.luluguinness.com

Then I saw my boss using a Lulu Guinness wallet.... so chio... the 3rd time I saw it was a pair of Specs from Paris Miki.... and I told myself, I MUST OWN A LULU GUINNESS!! hehee

History of Lulu Guinness (Click to read)

And from Wikipedia..

Lulu Guinness (born 1960) is a well-known British accessories fashion designer.

In 1989, Lulu designed her first handbag – a patent briefcase with lots of clear pockets and bright suede lining. The piece is sold through Liberty’s and Joseph in London. After this great success, Lulu begins designing handbags full time and opens an office and work studio in her home. She opens a collaborative store on Elizabeth Street in London with Selina Blow and the Jackson’s. In 1995, the first of her world famous collectable handbags is designed and called the ‘Original House’ with hand embroidery on black satin with a red suede roof.

The first Lulu Guinness stand-alone store is opened on Ledbury Road in Notting Hill. Small, but perfectly formed, the shop attracts favourite customers, Madonna and Jerry Hall. An office is opened simultaneously below the shop. She also starts selling to Far East companies including Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. Expanding quickly, 1998 sees Lulu join the Knightsbridge fleet, with a new shop opening in Ellis Street, just off Sloane Street and a New York store in Bleecker St in 2000. Quickly other accessory and design opportunities occur and Lulu starts designing hosiery and socks exclusively for the Japanese market. Lulu launches umbrellas, shoes, scarves, sunglasses and collaboration with The Rug Company, which ensures glamour girls around the world look to Lulu Guinness in their mission to be perfectly suited from head to toe. In 2003, Lulu holds an exhibition at Sotheby’s, London, celebrating her collectable limited edition along with her first limited edition fragrance. In the same year Lulu opens the first stand-alone shop in Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills.

2004 sees Lulu diversifying into a stationary range is launched for the US market and the first store opens in Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur’s KLCC Isetan.

Over the following years, Lulu launches an optical range of glasses in the USA and collaborates with Stratton to make a small collection of compacts for the UK. The second stand-alone store opens in Japan in Osaka’s Nu Chyamachi building. Lulu’s first marketing campaign hits the streets of London in the form of 10 classic London taxis dressed in Lulu Guinness’ lilac with classic sayings. Lulu takes her customer to bed with the launch of her bed linen collection, exclusive at Harrods for the launch prior to distributing to other luxury retailers. Lulu opens the lower ground floor of her Ellis Street shop with a beautiful bed linen retail showcase.
2006 sees rapid growth and Lulu brings her sunglasses and optical range to London with a launch at Vision Express in Oxford Street. Lulu also launches an exciting luxury Italian handbag collection, called ‘Couture’. Exquisitely detailed modern day classic handbags made in leather and other sumptuous materials bring the real definition of luxury to the world of Lulu Guinness fans.

Lulu renovates her website - www.luluguinness.com - bringing customers the latest information on the brand, with special insight into the world of Lulu and a cool new shop online. Lulu designs and launches a small Couture costume jewellery collection with gold plated pearl and multi colour collars – a perfect mix of vintage chic plus Lulu’s wit. In the same year, Lulu is awarded an OBE from her Majesty the Queen, for her great contribution to British fashion.
In 2007, Lulu launched her mainline jewellery collection incorporating her signature lips and lipsticks into pendants and charms. As desirable as her handbags, celebrities and fashionistas are quickly seen adorned with Lulu's fabulous jewellery.

Lulu's luxurious bed linen range expands to beautifully embroidered silk cushions and throws, which are designed to be used to accessorize and style the entire home.
In the last year 2008, Lulu started a new Master License agreement with Itochu Corporation for Japan. In addition to continuing her already popular umbrellas, parasols, wallets, and handkerchiefs made especially for Japan, Lulu is very excited to launch gloves, belts, towels and jewellery for AW08. A garden party at the British Embassy in Tokyo celebrated the partnership with Itochu Corporation.

Lulu launches a new umbrella collection in conjunction with British manufacturer Fulton Ltd. Her glamorous and witty designs prove to be perfect for adorning umbrella canopies, becoming a "must have item" for 2008.

Felt like blogging on Branded Vs Brandless today ....

Branded

I bought a Prada Wallet. The gold lettering faded and the store was able to do a Free Replacement for me. Any problem with the stitching, would also be included. LV provides services to change their bags linings and straps etc for a fee. And Seriously BRANDED bags do have better quality generally. We pay more not only for the BRAND but for the assurance and quality too.

Brandless

I bought 3 Brandless bag a few weeks ago. Love the series and I bought 3 of them at 1 go. Upon reaching home, one of the buttons feel off. Becos I bought 3, I did not check all 3 bags thoroughly and fail to see the defect. When I contacted the shop, they refused an exchange. Then I regretted buying the bags. :(

Really unhappy but guess it's my mistake for not checking on the spot. And my mistake for being greedy... hahaa and my mistake for not buying BRANDED! kekee...

My Love for brands started when I was in Secondary School.

Heard of Sonia Rykiel?? Chantal Thomass? Jean Paul Gaultier (JPG)?? Those were the "Ah Lian" Days when most branded bags were carried by the "Ah Lians". I was not very rich then so I owned only 1 Sonia Rykiel bag and a Chantal Thomass wallet. The prices were around $100 - $300 for the brands and it took me a few months of part-timing before I could afford them!

There were other brands like Hunting World, Armani, Versace! I wonder if you have ever heard of them?? Well of course these designer brands are still around... just that most Singaporeans are crazy over 2 brands now; LV and Gucci.

Everywhere on the street or train, you see someone carrying a LV or Gucci. I guess the craze came from the availability of the replicas in Pasar Malam years back. Sad to say, I started with Fakes too... No choice as I love the designs and yet cannot afford them .....

So talking about me, I bought my first LV Speedy 25 from Yahoo Auctions at about $600 few years back. $600 was not a small sum for someone who used to carry fakes, or use some other cheaper range of bags. I was all along a BAG Addict. I love bags, all kind of bags and I especially like a brand call NEVE when I was younger. Those could be found in those market stores but I love them all the same...

A $600 LV made me crave for a $800 bag.... then I sold my Speedy and invested in another bag... I forgot which bag but I was crazy over LV for at least 2-3 years. Almost all the bags that they have in the below $2000 range, I almost owned them all. Speedy, Batignolles Horizontal, Lockit Horizontal, Brera, Tivoli, Mini Monogram speedy, Hampstead, Saleya, Duomo, Paillion, Alma, Troubille, Deauville, and even Neverfull. Many more I cannot remember.

If you think I am rich, nope I am not. I sold off some of the bags which I do not use anymore and then invested in new loves... so thats why I did not spend much in my bags addiction. Well it's definitely more than $20k over the years but it has brought me immerse pleasure and happiness being able to buy the bags I love.

In the past, Yahoo Auctions was a good avenue for me to sell and buy bags... but then it's up to you to judge authenticity and I thank God that I had never met any conman yet..... then Yahoo closed down and it was hard finding another place to sell my bags, that was also why I started my own portal BagSG to let like-minded friends buy and sell branded stuff.

Well I got to go.... will blog more about my addictions and experiences when I am free :P

Love
Ling

Would you spend $100 on a fake Coach bag when you can buy an authentic one for $300?? It's about 1/3 of the price and of lower quality.

I wonder why are there so many fake Long Champs and Agnes B? The actual bags cost about $200+- and there are lots of imitations in the market. My neighbour said she bought a fake Long Champ bag for 199 Baht and it's about $8 sing dollars. Maybe that is a good buy. But who would spend $60-$90 on a fake Long Champ?? Well Some people are selling fake longchamps in JB...for that kind of price. Sighs...

Coach is actually a good buy because of the availabilty of Factory Outlet in the US. Everyone who goes US, will return with Coach wristlets for S$50? Bags for S$150+? It's considered branded still and some of its designs are nice. I would say the trend of wristlets started with COACH. Everywhere u go, you can see someone using a Coach wristlet. Buy an authentic Coach bag. Priced at average $500 - $800 for a bag in Singapore, and about 30% cheaper in US, I am sure alot of us can afford. Why buy fakes? Lousy metal rings that rust, fabric that tears easily and stitches that open easily.....

Buy an AUTHENTIC Coach today.
Support authenticity, check out BagSG.

BagSG's tots of the day

I was in JB during the weekend. I was shopping around in Holiday Plaza in JB and was WOWed by what I saw. Many shops selling imitations openly. Guess it should be "legal" since they existed for so long... and know what? They give LV paperbags for LV bags that u buy.... Same colour but of course, poor quality paper.

I saw this lady who was dressed like a rich lady, walking out of the shop, after she paid for a awful looking imitation LV Galleria GM. The stitching of the bag was awful and so is the colour and material. Perhaps she got it at a real bargain?? So maybe RM30 for such a lousy bag would be reasonable.

I walked into the shop and pretended to ask the price. GOSH... RM350 after disount! So kind of the lady to offer me such a "good" discount! Why would anyone pay this kind of money for a lousy replica?? Ok.. I would rate that lady RICH!

Why Buy Branded??
Well personally I feel that I buy branded to look good and feel good. Besides the face value, branded items usually have very good quality leather, material, stitching and even warranty. I just bought a Prada wallet few months ago and the gold lettering actually faded. The Prada boutique was able to offer me a FOC replacement for my wallet. That is why I want to support buying AUTHENTIC items..

Frankly speaking, I used to own a few replicas when I was younger... and none of them lasted. Loose stitches, broken straps, peeling off of the leather etc.. YUCKS!

So if you do want a good quality branded bag, support AUTHENTICITY. Report those who sell fakes, especially those who claim their fakes are REAL.

Miu Miu

(From wikipedia)

Miu Miu is positioned as the daily-oriented, younger clothing line from the Prada fashion house, opened in 1992 and headed by Miuccia Prada. The name of the collection is taken from Miuccia Prada's nickname.

BagSG:
Somehow Miu Miu gives me a moimoi feeling... it's a girly feel mixed with class and style... The logo of miu miu is cute... and the designs are usually very versatile.... I especially love the soft lambskin of some Miu Miu bags.... and the crumpled designs of the "sofa seats" bags like how my hubby describe... It's not too flashy and yet is stylish to carry for both work and casual... Would call it bold yet feminine...

Tips to take care your beloved Bags

Tip #1 : Do not flatten your bags

I have lots of bags and my friends always ask me how I keep my bags.

I feel that it's important not to flatten the bags. For example, it would be advisable to buy a stuffing pillow to keep your bag stuffed and store it. This way, it maintains the shape of your bags. Budget constraint? I read in some website that you can actually use your old clothes. Choose acid-free stuffings.

Example of stuffings available for sale at http://interesthing.com/

Tip #2 : Keep your bags in dust bags

It would be good to keep your bags in the dustbags given. This will prevent the bags from sticking to the cupboards over time and transferring colour from two bags. If you lost your dustbag, replace with another one or sew your own cloth bags :) Someone suggest using a pillow case cover as a dustbag too!

Tip #3 : Stay away from moth repellant

This is a tip I got from a forum. It was stated that Moth balls cause the monogram canvas to wear prematurely, resulting cracks. This is a common mistake where it comes to storing your LV bag, so next time before you store your bag in the cupboard, make sure you remove the moth balls first.

Tip #5: Use a Base Shaper

Use a base shaper for your big bags with broad base. Especially LV Speedy,LV Neverfull and Longchamp bags... available commercially as well as you can recycle the shaper of the older bags that you do not use anymore... I used to make my own from cardboard and customised the shape and size myself.

Tip #6: How to clean your bag?

Don't just use any weird leather cleaning products you find in the supermarkets etc... I was told that Apple Care works.. It's the recommended product for LV etc

Apple Brand leather care is an established manufacturer of high quality
cleaners, conditioners and protectors for natural and man-made materials. We are
currently making this product available at our website for your purchase.

If you want to buy, you can get it at Bag laundry too.

Reasons to buy from BagSg...

Why buy preloved or second hand? Let me justify for you.

Jane buys a LV speedy direct from boutique for $1090. Her sister bought a good condition speedy online from one of BagSG's seller for $750. Both girls carry the same bag and wowed their friends for carrying a branded bag. Same effect, same use if bag but different price they paid. Both used their bags and got tired of the bags and decided to sell them away.

Bag is valued at $600 for their used condition and Jane made a loss of $490! Wheras Jane's sister only lost $150. What do U think?

Another scenario...

Cecilia buys a Chanel direct from boutique for $3300. Kate bought a good condition Chanel (same model) from one of BagSG's seller for $2700. Both girls carry the same bag and wowed their friends for carrying a branded bag. Same effect, same use if bag but different price they paid. Both used their bags and got tired of the bags and decided to sell them away. Bag is valued at $2800 for their used condition and Cecilia made a loss of $500! Wheras Kate made $100 from the sale!!

What say you? :)

Chanel Jumbo

Chanel is in! I see more Chanel in. Perhaps all along Chanel is in but has always been out of my budget. Jumbo is in now. More people are buying 2.55 JUMBO version because you can put more stuff in! Chanel bags are always elegant and has a classic look. You never look outdated carrying a Chanel... many years down the road, you won't regret owning this Chanel too.

In my opinion, Caviar is good. In face better than lambskin. Easier to maintain and cheaper than lambskin too. The above bag in lambskin will cost about $4.9k in SG. Caviar will be $4.6k. Not easy to have scratches too.

More findings online:
They are uniquely styled handbags that give enough space, comfort and elegance to the wearer.
Made from the white leather and embossing checks, these bags are a perfect blend to any party and occasion. Just like the others White Chanel Handbags, as well jumbo bags are also a complete party and office solution, and come with decorated in attractive chain and leather straps.

Space is not at all a problem with these awesome and highly appealing handbags. When you buy one of these Chanel Jumbo Handbags , you get dust-free, hologram card and much more. It is comfortable and can be either carried in hand or worn on shoulder.

The quality of leather used in making the handbags is entirely stain and water resistant. Furthermore, because of high level of durability, the designer handbags from Chanel are secure enough to hold precious jewelry with complete safety. And more important their wallets and other accessories are used to use the other things to carry on here.
More features of this Chanel Jumbo Handbag
Jumbo sized 8.5” in height, and 3.5" in depth.
Measures 12" from the top, corner to corner.
Smooth White Leather Interiors
One Large Pocket with a Zip.
One Large Open Pocket without Flap at the Back.

Tips for Buyers

How to GRAB A GOOD deal?

Visit the website everyday.
Be the first to visit the blog always so that you can spot the good deals and contact the sellers to secure the deal first.

If you are a fussy buyer, why hesitate if someone is selling a flawless brand new bag at a discount? Best if it comes with what you would be getting at the boutique like receipt, dustbag, paperbag…. Grab the bag. There is still savings compared to getting it from a boutique.

If you are not a fussy buyer, many sellers post their bags which has scratches, slightly used or stained or slightly torn etc… at real low prices. Then you can take the chance to bargain and close the deal at a price happy for both buyers and sellers.

A good buy is a Bag with very good condition and priced reasonably. It is also not advisable for buyers to slash prices too low for sellers to counter offer. For example offering $200 for a bag which seller posted at $380 and retail is $700.

To ensure you get an authentic bag, you can either be very experienced to checking the quality, workmanship and codes etc, you can also try to ensure the bag comes with dustbag, receipt etc. Sometimes some sellers may not have a receipt due to misplacing (cos come people may not buy with the intention of reselling) then you can choose to meet the seller at a 2nd hand shop that helps buyers verify authenticity for a small fee.

You also can choose to go to the boutique, check out details of the actual bag and code etc so you can compare when you finally meet the seller to check their bag.

All buyers and sellers can arrange for a “No Obligation” viewing at the convenience of both parties so that buyers can see the bag and the condition for themselves. Once agreeable, the deal is closed, both parties should not bother each other again.

While BagSG™ try our best to differentiate the real sellers from the fake ones, we do not take any responsibility for the transaction between buyers and sellers.

We hope you can enjoy your purchase online and save money in this economy crunch yet carry your favourite brands :)

Usually sharp photos can display the condition of your bags better and they do sell faster than poorly taken pics. Buyers usually want to see pictures from the front, back, insides of bag and perhaps pictures of stains/scruffing.

Detailed description can include measurements of bag, condition, colour (if unclear), what does the bag comes with (receipt, dustbag, paperbag, accessory etc) and also purchase date and reason for selling. If your price is negotiable, you can state so and do expect many bargaining from interested parties. If your price is fixed, you can state so and this would minimize the bargaining (but still expect some).

There is some kind of market rate for Preloved Authentic Branded items. Not determined by me but by the mass market who sells their preloved branded bags. Usually the resale value for Chanel and Louis Vuitton is higher compared to Gucci and Coach. I guess this is partly because of the “No Discount” by LV and ever “popular” increasing prices…..

A Brand new LV that retails for $1000 can be sold for about 10-20% discount for best results. (Depending on model and exclusivity) As many buyers can buy Coach from US and at a much cheaper rate, usually a Coach that retails for $800 in local stores can only fetch maximum $500.

For more information and authentication, you can visit The Purse Forum to ask for more help from the other experienced Branded Bags buyers. I also feel it's easier to sell your bag online and minimise selling to 2nd hand shops. 2nd hand shops push your bag prices real low... :( and that is why I set up this channel :)

The above is only a general guideline from my own experience :)

These would minimize enquiries and help buyers access your bag easier. Good Luck in Selling your bags :)

Its totally chic and totally practical, its the Damier Azur Totally. The bag features a simple yet timeless design that is spacious and functional, it could be used as a city tote, beach bag or even a diaper bag for Moms on the go. Choose the right bag for your body.

Got these tips from the website: http://fashion.about.com/cs/handbags/a/bagforbody.htm

No more unflattering lengths or sizes!

You probably don't give handbags the same scrutiny you give a pair of jeans: if a handbag is cute or fits your lifestyle then it works.

But did you know that a handbag can flatter your shape almost as much as the right pair of jeans? Apply these easy steps to getting bag in proportion to your figure.

It can not only knock off pounds visually (no kidding!), it'll polish up your style in a flash. Shapes Try to choose a shape which is the opposite of your body type.

If you are tall and thin, look for a slouchy, rounded hobo bag to compliment your figure.

If you're short and voluptous, play off opposites by choosing a handbag that is tall and rectangular or long and sleek (like a clutch).
In general, the rounder your figure, the more structured your bag should be. That doesn't mean that you have to carry a hard box around to counterbalance your womanly shape: rectangular or square silhouettes in soft leathers or fabrics will do the trick.
Some popular shapes:
Tote - An open-top bag with straps or handles.
Hobo bag - A crescent-shaped shoulder bag.
Duffle - Tall shoulderbag, often with a wider opening on top.
Field bag - A flap-top shoulderbag with utility-type closure (buckles, snaps, etc).
Clutch - A small, handheld bag (frequently used for evening wear).
Satchel- A large, handheld bag. Baguette - Long and rounded shoulder bag resembling the namesake bread.
Messenger - A large, soft shoulder bag with long straps (often worn across the body).
Cigar Box - A small, boxy, hard bag.
Pouch - A soft, small bag.
Kelly bag - A classic Hermes style named after Grace Kelly; a large, structured handbag with distinctive hardware closures.
Jelly Kelly - No relation to the Hermes original, it's a bright rubber tote.

Scale While the shape should oppose your body type for maximum flattery, the size of the bag should be in proportion to your figure. Think scale here: a woman who is 6 feet tall and a size 14 would look lost with a teensy hand-held bag. A petite size 0 would look overwhelmed by an enormous slouchy bag. In recent years, styles have become smaller and on very short straps which make the bag fit right under the arm at breast level. Close-fitting bags are a great look if you're svelte and want to show off cleavage; not so great if your arms and bust are too large.

How to tell if a shoulderbag is right for you? Try on the bag. If it feels cramped under your arm and constantly hits your breast, it's not for you. A shoulder bag's length (where the bottom of the bag hits your body) will accentuate whatever part of the body it comes near.

For example, a shoulder bag that ends around the hips will play up your hip width (the eye is drawn to the bag). Most women look great with a bag that hits mid-torso because it flatters the waist.
Tips
1. Take time in a store to try on handbags in front of a mirror just like you would apparel.
2. Don't be tempted by trendy shapes that don't suit your figure: there are plenty of great alternatives that will work.
3. Think lifestyle when shopping for handbags: if you're toting diapers and graham crackers, an artsy vintage bag won't hold up
